Last Minute Looks: Halloween

While Erin is hot glue gunning and crafting her life away in our room, I'm "that girl" who's rummaging through my (and my floormate's) closet searching for pieces to incorporate into my Halloween costumes for the weekend. I really have no better word to label my costume creativity other than "lazy". While I brainstorm costumes for myself, I thought I would put together some simple Halloween costumes that can be easily made with clothing pieces that already own.

Catwoman Halloween Costume
For an easy superhero outfit, look hard in the back of your closet for those old cat ears and shiny black leggings. Anything tight, black, and leather-like will do for a Catwoman outfit and by adding red lipstick and a mask you won't have to answer the question of: "What are you?"

Clueless Halloween Costume
If you have been a reader of some of older posts, you should know that anything 90's style is an absolute favorite of mine. You can easily channel Cher and Dionne by pairing a matching plaid-on-plaid skirt and blazer with a sheer button down. For the 90's makeup look, keep it simple by swiping on some neutral-pink lipgloss and topping straightened hair with a black beret. If you're wanting to make the outfit look more modern, you can buy a pair of  affordable Mary Jane pumps to compliment your knee highs. And for the finishing touch, perfect your SoCal accent and make your response to those creepy guys: "As If!"

Military Halloween Costume
For the last (and easiest) outfit, you probably won't have to go out and buy anything new. You only need jeans, boots, and an army jacket to pull this look off! If you want to go the extra mile you can add some aviators and a dog tag to the outfit for a more distinguishable look. With this outfit being so simple, I think I may take my own advice here!

D.I.Y.: Halloween

Untitled #159

Original Picture: Pinterest

Hands down, Halloween has to be one of my favorite holidays. Thinking of new costume ideas and searching for that perfect outfit has always been a favorite of mine (of course, the candy as well). But sadly, the prices for Halloween costumes have been so ridiculously expensive, that this year I am getting crafty and making my own costume. I was searching through Pinterest looking for creative costume ideas when I stumbled upon an original idea: an ice cream cone. I bought a nude skirt and crop top from American Apparel to symbolize the actual ice cream cone and the strawberry flavored ice cream. Next, I bought different colors of felt that I am hot-gluing onto the top of the shirt to symbolize sprinkles. I'm then pairing nude wedges to match the nude color of the ice cream cone as well. And lastly, the red ribbon for your hair is just like the cherry on top. There will pictures up later this week of the finished outfit! Until then, have a great Halloween!

Inspired By: Halloween

There's just something about the Fall season that's so magical. The Autumn leaves changing signifies my favorite time of the year, as well as my favorite holiday: Halloween. If you are a die-hard fan of the holiday like myself, Halloween eventually turns into Halloweek, and with today being Day 1 leading up to the holiday, I thought I would do a Halloween inspired post. A way to get into the spirit of Halloween by not feeling like you're wearing a costume is easier than it seems. Try adding a Halloween tank or sweater under a leather jacket, or go for a more subtle look by pairing Vampy pieces with dark lips. Check out my exact picks below, and make sure to look for costume posts coming soon. Happy Halloweek!

I Love You, NY

After a crazy, whirlwind weekend I am finally back in my own (dorm) bed attempting to get back in the swing of things!  This past weekend, I was chosen to attend Teen Vogue's Fashion University in New York City and with this also being my first time to the city, I was more than excited when Thursday morning came and I hopped on a plane. For those of you who are clueless as to what I'm talking about, Fashion University is a Teen Vogue sponsored event with classes being held by designers, models and editors aiming at the likes of anyone interested in a fashion career. After my amazing weekend, I strongly encourage any of you guys to apply for Fashion U next year! After my first day and a half of shopping in Soho and a meeting, the kick-off Fashion U event was hosted on Friday night at Express. With discounts, drinks, and more than enough fashion obsessing, it was the perfect start to meeting the other talented girls that would be attending classes the next day. On Saturday, I had a full day of seminars ranging from hearing about Coco Rocha's journey as a model to learning about how Express became a full-blown successful empire (and a conplimentary sweater!). Ending the day with a Topshop shopping event, I was luckily able enough to still fit in some sight seeing in Central Park, 5th Ave and my favorite pick of the trip: the top of the Empire State Building!

Sadly, the weekend events came to an end with a "graduation" on Sunday morning and then I was headed back to Columbia sooner than I thought. Later this week, I will be posting more about the street style from the other Fashion U students, as well as some outfits that I wore. I'll leave you all with some pictures of my weekend below!

What A Steal

Everyone is always on the look out for a good deal because who honestly wants to pay massive amounts of money on a single item?! (Not me!) I am not one to pay ridiculous amounts of money on clothing because I am the typical "broke college student". I spend all my money on food...sorry not sorry. So below I have decided to give you guys a couple of different basic items that you can get for much cheaper than the major brand name item.

G.N.O

On our floor we have ritual that whenever it's a girl's birthday, we all go out together and last night was no exception. It was our friend Jordayn's birthday last night and we thought wed'd do a quick post. We wanted to show you a typical outfit of what we would wear on a night out and hopefully this inspires you on different ways you can wear a piece of clothing. I had a blast last night and Raechel can definitely say the same. I cannot wait for more girls night outs to come and check our outfits below. More OOTD's will be coming this weekend, be on the lookout!

P.S. Sorry about the bad quality, we had to snap it on the go!

And We Danced All Night. . .

To the best song ever... (yes, I just quoted One Direction. No shame) This upcoming weekend Raechel and I are going home to see Mike Stud (one of our favs!) in concert. While thinking of what I'm going to wear, I have decided to do an inspired outfit for going to concerts. The way you dress for a concert depends on who the artist is and what kind of vibe you get while attending. If the artist is more indie or country, wear more boho-y and floral outfits. If the artist is more hip-hop, we tend to wear more crop tops, cut-outs and leather. Then, for artists who are pop, gravitate towards more color and even go in a hipster direction by wearing high waisted shorts or circle skirts. The most important thing when choosing what to wear to a concert is to make sure you feel comfortable and it has your own twist to it. Make sure everything you wear is your own. So, below I have put together a few outfits that I would wear to a concert for inspiration.

Basic-ally Right

When picking your outfit for the day, it is extremely easy for me to grab for a gold studded and embellished leather jacket or try to figure out how to incorporate a faux fur vest into my outfit; But, the only way you can work more detailed and daring pieces into your outfit is by pulling them together with the basics. With basics being the foundation of a wardrobe, they clearly prove they are the most critical part of an outfit. The other day, I was trying to put together an outfit for going out when I realized that I didn't have a pair of plain, dark wash jeans. Really, Raechel?! I only own a pair of dark wash distressed jeans, which let's be honest, do not go with everything. At that point I knew I had to write a post on the necessity of basics in a wardrobe. I thought through most of the outfits that I wear and have chosen the top 15 basics you NEED to have for this fall.

Best Basics for Fall!

I may have gone a littleeee overboard on the amount of basics, but the more options the better. I hope these choices help you out when planning your outfits in the morning this fall! To shop all of my exact picks above, check out our polyvore. Happy October 3rd, biotch!

All Gold Everything

My obsession with gold jewelry has hit an all time high and browsing through Urban Outfitters jewelry section on their online website clearly didn't help! My favorite item of jewelry is the midi ring. I have two gold midi rings that I wear every time that I go out. So with all this inspiration hitting me in the face, I decided to make a post of some of my favorite jewelry that I have found! I personally think that gold jewelry goes with absolutely everything and it can definitely help give your outfit that extra edge that every girl wants. I mean, a super gorg outfit with some edgy jewelry? C'mon what more do you want! Check out the jewelry that I have picked out below.

Furreal, Friends.

Do you know what today is, friends? The first day of my favorite month of the year! October is by far my favorite because of the added flare of scare in the air, as well as the weather in the midwest finally cooling down. This means that we can start wearing jackets and not feel like having a heat stroke! To celebrate, I've decided to share one of my favorite trends for fall that I can't wait to start wearing: Fur. Anything furry, fluffy, or fuzzy has become my latest obsession! After finding my favorite items for the trend, I've managed to put together my top 5 ways to incorporate (faux) fur into your fall wardrobe.

Top Ways to Wear Fur

Adding a fluffy jumper is by far one of the easiest ways to add the trend into your wardrobe. Pairing the jumper with skinny jeans and booties or converse can turn the look from edgy to casual, while looking luxe and put together. For styling the denim jacket, I would recommend a casual look with converse, a beanie, and black skinny jeans. The woven jacket and fur vest can be dressed up a bit with black skinnies (of course!) and heeled booties. I added a fur collar to my list because this piece can be added to any furless leather, woven, or denim jacket you have now, instead of going out and buying the jacket with fur. Saving money while looking good? I'll take that!

Denim Jacket: Topshop

Woven Jacket: Zara

Fur Collar: Topshop
