Snow Bunny

For those of you wondering how our break if going, it's fantastic really, minus the current blizzard and high of 1 degree tomorrow. Since I'm being snowed in on this beautiful Sunday, my day will revolve around blogging, Netflix, and online shopping. Starting with option #1, I have gained inspiration from today's weather. If any of you are brave enough to endure the cold here in the Midwest, or simply live in the Northern states where 10 degrees is considered a blessing, you shouldn't have to sacrifice your wardrobe. With layers, layers, and more layers, I have chosen a few classic key pieces that are must-haves for your winter wardrobe this season. I also am trying to adopt more color into my outfits for the New Year, so I thought I'd start off by adding a few colored picks to this post.. But, don't be surprised if you keep seeing OOTD's featuring my typical black-on-black ensembles.

Long-Line Parkas
1. Long-Line Parka: No surprise here considering that parkas are becoming one of the most sold jacket designs of A/W 2013, with no signs of slowing down in 2014. This jacket has now reached high-end and popular chain stores so finding the perfect one for you couldn't be easier. With a classic look and heavily lined inner, you will be using this jacket for more than just one winter. The typical parka is usually sold in army green with a fur hood, but if you're wanting to switch things up with some leather or color check out my picks below. And here's a hint to the shorter girls out there: YES, this jacket is long-line so do yourself a favor and search Petite sections of your favorite stores. A 5'1" girl (like myself) looks a bit odd in a jacket designed for 5'6" and above.

Fashion
2. Mittens: As a child, I bet your parents never let you go anywhere in the winter without a hat and gloves. Sticking true to the saying "Parents know best", I never discovered how important these items were until living through two Minnesota winters during high school. Grabbing my favorite pair of Mittens when I walk out the door is now a reoccurring habit all thanks to those two years. Trust me, you will praise yourself when you have your daily 15 minute walk across campus this semester. Which ones will I be wearing this winter? Well, I'm a proud Canadian.

3. Beanies: Ah, the iconic beanie. Warm, simple, and pulls an outfit together. Anymore questions?

Rain Boots
4. Rain Boots: One thing that I learned in high school was that Snowy Uggs and tile floors do not mix well. Ditch the Uggs when you're out bearing the snow and pair rain boots with tall, fluffy socks for the perfect waterproof combination. Say goodbye to water stains and potential tripping!

Scarves
5. Scarves: Another simple piece that ties an outfit together while being completely practical because of it's warmth. With the infinity scarf being my favorite, adding one in cable knit or faux fur is an easy way to add a luxurious feel to an outfit.

And by adding them all together...

Creates the perfect winter outfit for campus.

Everyone in this weather stay safe and enjoy the simplistic feeling of being snowed in (with internet and your latest paycheck). Until next time!

Rae
